Define the business outcome
Choose meaningful outcomes such as qualified enquiries, product engagement or sales. An increase in sampled mentions is not automatically an increase in revenue.
Connect the outcome to relevant landing pages and trackable contact routes where the business has the necessary analytics setup.
Use a repeatable question set
Select questions that reflect genuine customer intent and document how they are tested.
Keep wording and sampling conditions reasonably consistent. Record changes in platform, market or method before comparing observations.
Separate mentions and citations
A mention names the brand. A citation provides a source link. A referral is a visit that reaches the website.
A citation does not prove that a user clicked, and a missing referral label does not prove that no user arrived from an AI interface.
Understand reporting limits
Google’s AI-feature traffic contributes to overall Search Console search reporting. It should not be presented as a dedicated, complete AI-only report.
Other AI-related visits may have identifiable referrers in analytics, but privacy, app behavior and technical differences can obscure attribution.
Report work as well as outcomes
List completed technical fixes, revised pages, connected resources and resolved information inconsistencies.
Separate confirmed findings from interpretation and report negative or unchanged observations as well as positive ones.
Choose the next action
Use the findings to prioritize useful content gaps, access issues and weak enquiry journeys.
Do not respond to a small sample by manufacturing authority, buying fake reviews or promising a guaranteed AI recommendation.
